Artists of Sound: Jeremiah Fraites

In this episode of Artists of Sound, Jeremiah Fraites, musician, songwriter and co-founder of The Lumineers, invites us to Sun Mountain Studios, in the Catskills of New York, to share the process of creating Piano Piano 2 and his perspective on sound. We explore how multiple pianos around the world, along with a blend of digital and analog technology, were used to build the body of work. Seven different pianos from various corners of the world – including Denver, New York, Los Angeles, Canada, and Brazil – were used across the album. Found sounds and experimental sounds created with an ARP 2500, Space Echo, and vibraphone, contribute to the album’s unique sonic texture.

He is joined by Music Producer, David Baron, and Executive Producer, Francesca Lazzarin, as they explore what sound means to each of them, and how making a record is a lot like cooking – in that it’s always “the amounts of things that make something come together in a special way, and that’s the alchemy of sound.”
